is a major exhibition of the portraits, landscape paintings, and commercial work of Scottish-born artist James Henderson, Saskatchewan’s pre-eminent first-generation artist.  To find out more about James Henderson, visit www.mendel.ca/henderson to learn more about this important artist and his work.

Celebrate the opening of James Henderson: Wicite Owapi Wicasa.  Meet the curators and explore this major exhibition of the portraits, landscape paintings and commercial work of Saskatchewan artist James Henderson (1871-1951).

COMMUNITY GATHERING
A PRESENTATION OF ORAL HISTORIES

Saturday, May 1, 2010, 2 pm - 4 pm
An insightful afternoon celebrating the related oral histories of First Nations peoples based on Henderson’s portraits. Moderated by exhibition co-curator Dr. Neal McLeod, you’ll hear from storytellers as well as family members of Henderson’s subjects.

HENDERSON QU’APPELLE VALLEY BUS TOUR
Saturday, June 12, 2010, 10 am - 5 pm

A full-day guided exploration of the Qu’Appelle Valley through the eyes of artist James Henderson. Led by storyteller Joseph Naytowhow, this journey includes tours of the Treaty Four Governance Centre as well as sites specific to Henderson and his creative process. A refreshing lunch will be provided. Space is limited, call 584-4292 to register today: $60 ($55 for Gallery Members).
