Calling Black Lake: Father Porte Memorial Dené School and Campbell Collegiate
Calling Black Lake was a long-distance educational project connecting students in Black Lake to students in Regina. It started quite simply as a small project in which two groups of students, one from Father Porte Memorial Dené School and one from Campbell Collegiate in Regina, would send visual art and photographs back and forth through the mail as an innovative way of getting to know each other. As the project grew, the MacKenzie Art Gallery invited Gabriel Yahyahkeekoot, a young Cree filmmaker, to work as an Artist-in-Residence. Gabriel’s expertise proved to be a major component in this project. As we view some of the work from the initial Calling Black Lake exchange, Gabriel will provide workshops sharing his knowledge of film and video. Resources: Activities
