From Where I Stand: Contemporary Landscapes by Canadian Artists
January 13, 2007 to March 25, 2007 From Where I Stand features landscape paintings, drawings and prints recently acquired by the MacKenzie Art Gallery. Images of the land are extremely malleable; they can reveal nature to be vast or intimate, universal or personal, timeless or ever-changing. This exhibition examines how landscape art has evolved in the past fifty years and explores the various ways that contemporary artists use representations of the land to speak to a wide variety of issues: political, social, spiritual, environmental, regional or purely aesthetical.
The artists in the exhibition are: Richard Gorenko, Greg Hardy, Wanda Koop, Landon Mackenzie, Medrie MacPhee, Grant McConnell, Gordon Smith, Anthony Thorn, and Martha Townsend.
