Voluntary Laughter: MacKenzie Gallery Volunteers Look at the Permanent Collection
September 30, 2006 to January 8, 2007 Humour is a theme which springs up continually in art, from the satires of William Hogarth and Honoré Daumier to the ironic commentaries of Victor Cicansky and David Thauberger. In this exhibition, which is drawn from the MacKenzie permanent collection, our very own MacKenzie Gallery Volunteers explore this subject. Since January a dedicated Study Group involving a dozen volunteers has been researching selected works from the collection, interviewing artists, and learning about the process of organizing an exhibition. This exhibition follows up on the success of the Angels in our Midst Study Group which collaborated with MacKenzie staff on a similar exhibition in 1999. This exhibition joins Situation Comedy and Wahwâ Neechi Funk! as part of the fall focus on humour at the Gallery.
