You Are What You Eat
September 18, 2008 to February 22, 2009 Food, as we all know, is more than fodder – it defines our identity as much as our homes or hairstyles. Not surprisingly, artists continue to find the subject irresistible, especially when they cast an eye on the rituals of everyday life.
The eight sculptors in this show – including such familiar names as David Gilhooly, David Thauberger and Victor Cicansky – give us everything from a wooden cake fit for a beaver’s wedding, to an overstuffed Thanksgiving “turkeyscape,” to a old-time prairie root cellar chock full of canned preserves. Fun, irreverent and funky, the artworks in this exhibition give a new appreciation of food and drink as intimate elements of our sense of self. Image: Victor Cicansky Organized by the MacKenzie Art Gallery with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the City of Regina Arts Commission and also made possible through the generous support of the Donald and Claire Kramer Foundation.
